Iron Gate Inn is proud to display free to the public the photographic work of Lewis E. Gilbreath.  Featured at the Iron Gate Inn is a collection of Lewis Gilbreath's Barn photography - on loan from the Winfield Arts & Humanities Council.  Kansas barns are unique in their design partly because each is made of local materials and many were created with building techniques adopted from European immigrants.  Gilbreath's work also shows some Kansas Round Barns which are also unique in that Round Barns were the subject of much spirited debate in the quest for the best techniques to house farm animals and equipment.  Fewer than 1,400 Round Barns ever existed in the United States.  In 1980 a survey found only 41 Round Barns remaining in Kansas. In 2012, only 24 Round Barns remain standing.  An effort to place these rare structures on the National Register of Historic Places is underway as Round Barns represent an integral part of Kansas's agricultural advancement.  View Gilbreath's photographic Kansas Round Barns Collection at the Iron Gate Inn!  On display sunday afternoons (12-5) and other times by appointment.  Call for free viewings  . . .
